Analysis of the Causes of Idle Starter Motor
Car starter idling refers to the fault phenomenon where the starter motor runs normally after being powered on,but cannot drive the engine flywheel to rotate,and the engine shows no signs of starting.This problem is often related to mechanical meshing failure or abnormal electromagnetic switch control,and the specific reasons can be divided into the following categories:
1、Unidirectional clutch failure(due to core mechanical reasons)
The one-way clutch is the core component for power transmission between the starter and the engine flywheel,and its failure is the most common cause of idling.
One way clutch slipping
The one-way clutch is composed of components such as rollers,springs,and shells,which rely on the principle of roller wedge to transmit torque.After long-term use,roller wear,spring fatigue relaxation,or internal grease drying and aging can lead to the failure of the wedge mechanism.When the starter is running,power cannot be transmitted to the flywheel ring gear,only driving the motor to idle.
One way clutch stuck
Impurities,rust,or insufficient assembly accuracy inside the clutch can cause the one-way clutch to get stuck in a disengaged state,unable to transmit power with the drive gear and flywheel meshing.
2、Abnormal meshing between the drive gear and the flywheel ring gear
The driving gear is severely worn
The teeth of the starter drive gear may experience damage such as tooth surface peeling,tooth top grinding,or tooth root fracture due to long-term frequent meshing and impact,resulting in ineffective meshing with the flywheel ring gear and causing idling.
Damage to flywheel ring gear
The engine flywheel ring gear has problems such as tooth wear,deformation,and missing teeth.Even if the driving gear pops up normally,stable meshing cannot be formed,and the starter power cannot be transmitted to the engine.
Excessive meshing clearance
Loose starter mounting brackets,worn bushings,or improper adjustment of drive gear travel can cause the meshing clearance between the drive gear and the flywheel ring gear to exceed the standard value(usually 2-4mm).After power on,the driving gear cannot be fully embedded into the flywheel ring gear,only surface friction slips.
3、Electromagnetic switch control failure
The electromagnetic switch is responsible for controlling the ejection of the driving gear and the connection of the circuit.Its failure can cause the mechanical meshing action to be asynchronous with the motor operation:
Insufficient suction force of electromagnetic switch
Aging of electromagnetic switch coils,poor circuit contact,and low battery voltage can lead to a decrease in suction force.The driving gear only partially popped out and failed to fully mesh with the flywheel ring gear,causing the motor to spin when powered on.
Electromagnetic switch reset spring fault
The fatigue fracture or weakened elasticity of the reset spring may cause the drive gear to pop out and fail to reset normally,but there may be a situation where the meshing is not in place at the moment of startup;Or after the engine is started,the driving gear cannot detach from the flywheel ring gear in a timely manner,causing reverse dragging and idling.
Electromagnetic switch contact adhesion
The main contact inside the electromagnetic switch was eroded and adhered by the arc,causing the motor to be powered on in advance.At this time,the driving gear had not fully popped out and engaged with the flywheel,ultimately leading to idling.
4、Other auxiliary factors
Loose installation of starter motor
The fixing bolts of the starter motor are loose,causing overall displacement of the starter motor.The coaxiality deviation between the driving gear and the flywheel ring gear is too large,making it impossible to mesh properly.
Foreign object jamming
Foreign objects such as bolts and washers fall between the starter drive gear and the flywheel,hindering the meshing between the drive gear and the flywheel ring gear,causing the starter to spin.
