Maintenance cycle and operating specifications for generator belt and tensioning wheel
The generator belt (often a multi wedge belt or V-belt) and tensioner are the core components of the engine accessory transmission system, working together to ensure the operation of equipment such as the generator, water pump, and air conditioning compressor. The maintenance cycle needs to be comprehensively judged based on the vehicle design and working condition intensity. The specific requirements are as follows:
1、 Standard maintenance cycle
1. Maintenance cycle of household passenger cars
generator belt
Ordinary multi wedge belt: Check every 60000 to 100000 kilometers or 4-6 years, and it is recommended to replace it forcibly if it reaches 100000 to 150000 kilometers or 8 years (whichever comes first).
Rubber material belts will age and crack over time. Even if there is no obvious damage to the appearance, they need to be replaced after more than 8 years to avoid sudden breakage.
Tensioning wheel and idler wheel
Replace synchronously with the belt without setting a separate cycle. Because the wear life of the tensioner bearing is similar to that of the belt, if the old tensioner is retained when replacing the belt, it is easy for the new belt to slip, make abnormal noises, and even accelerate the wear of the new belt due to bearing jamming and insufficient tension.
2. Maintenance cycle of commercial/operational vehicles
High frequency operating vehicles such as trucks, buses, and taxis require a 30% -50% reduction in maintenance cycle due to high engine load and frequent start stop
Belt: Check and replace every 30000 to 60000 kilometers or 2-3 years.
Tensioning wheel: It must be replaced synchronously every time the belt is replaced. If there is any abnormal noise during operation, it needs to be repaired and replaced immediately.
3. Periodic adjustment under special working conditions
The following scenarios require further reduction in maintenance cycles (to 50% -70% of the regular cycle):
Long term driving in high temperature, dusty, and humid environments (such as deserts, coastal areas, and mining sections);
Frequent idling operation (such as ride hailing and cold chain delivery vehicles);
The engine has oil leakage issues (oil and coolant contamination can accelerate belt aging).
2、 Key inspection and maintenance operation points
1. Inspection content of generator belt
Appearance inspection: Check whether there are cracks, delamination, rubber hardening, tooth loss, and other phenomena on the surface of the belt, and whether the edges are fuzzy; If any situation occurs, replace immediately.
Tension check: Press the middle part of the belt (the longest span) with your hand, with a pressure of about 10kg. The normal deflection should be 10-15mm. If the deflection is too large, it indicates insufficient tension and is prone to slipping and heating; If the scratch is too small, it will exacerbate bearing wear.
Pollution inspection: If there is oil or coolant adhering to the surface of the belt, it needs to be thoroughly cleaned and leak points checked. If the pollution is severe, the belt should be replaced directly.
2. Core requirements for tensioning wheel maintenance
Function check: After starting the engine, listen for any "rustling" or metal friction noise in the tensioner area. Abnormal noise is usually a sign of bearing wear or jamming, and should be replaced immediately.
Gap inspection: After turning off the engine, rotate the tension wheel by hand to feel if there is any jamming or looseness; Check the tension adjustment function of the tensioning wheel to ensure that it can automatically compensate for the elongation of the belt.
Replacement specification: original or same specification accessories shall be used for replacement, and the belt tension shall be adjusted to the manufacturer's standard value after installation to avoid manual judgment based on experience.
